Meet the Directors

Shiree Ma'asi & 'Epenesa Kamsoo

Shiree Ma’asi and ‘Epenesa Kamsoo are the founders and directors of Lalaga Pasifika Homeschool, a Pasifika-led, community-rooted homeschool initiative established in 2025 to support families through culturally grounded, inclusive education and connection.

The vision for Lalaga Pasifika Homeschool began through a simple yet meaningful moment. At a local homeschool meetup, Shiree and 'Epenesa met through their daughters, who instantly connected and excitedly shared that they had “just started vibing.”

What began as a conversation between two mothers soon became a shared vision for creating stronger connections within the Pasifika homeschooling community.

Through their own experiences, they recognised that while many Pasifika families were homeschooling successfully, they were often underrepresented and navigating the journey in isolation. Together, they saw the need for a space that reflected Pasifika values, identity, and ways of learning — while remaining open, inclusive, and welcoming to families of all backgrounds.

Inspired by the meaning of lalaga — “to weave” — Shiree and 'Epenesa founded Lalaga Pasifika Homeschool to bring families together through shared learning, cultural grounding, and collective care. Their leadership is guided by the belief that education extends beyond academics and is strengthened through relationships, lived experience, culture, creativity, and community.

As directors, they are passionate about creating environments where children can grow in confidence, cultural identity, belonging, and wellbeing, while families are supported through connection and shared responsibility.

Through collaboration and community involvement, they continue to nurture a space where families feel seen, valued, and empowered in their homeschooling journey.

At the heart of their vision is a simple belief: when families are woven together, children thrive.
