Lalaga Pasifika Homeschool is a Pasifika-led, community-rooted homeschool initiative established in 2025 to support families through culturally grounded, inclusive education and connection.
The kaupapa of Lalaga Pasifika Homeschool was born from a simple but powerful moment. At a local homeschool meetup, two mums — Shiree and Epenesa, now the directors of Lalaga Pasifika — met through their daughters, who connected instantly and excitedly shared that they had “just started vibing.” That moment of connection sparked a deeper conversation and a shared realisation.
Although many Pasifika homeschooling families were known within the community, they were rarely seen or represented in wider homeschool spaces. Families were learning, growing, and doing their best — often in isolation. There was a clear need for a space that reflected Pasifika values, identity, and ways of connecting, while remaining open and welcoming to families from all cultural backgrounds.
Lalaga Pasifika Homeschool was established to meet that need.
Inspired by the meaning of lalaga — to weave — the initiative centres on weaving families together through shared learning, cultural grounding, and collective care. Pasifika values sit at the heart of the kaupapa, shaping how relationships are built, how learning is approached, and how community is nurtured. At the same time, Lalaga Pasifika Homeschool is intentionally inclusive, creating spaces where families of diverse cultures can connect, learn from one another, and belong.
Education within Lalaga Pasifika Homeschool extends beyond academic learning. It is relational, experiential, and community-based. Families remind one another that learning happens through lived experience, cultural practice, service, creativity, and shared responsibility. Children are supported not only to grow academically, but to develop confidence, cultural awareness, and a strong sense of belonging.
Community involvement is central to the vision. Families are encouraged to actively participate, contribute skills and knowledge, and engage with the wider community. Through collaboration and shared leadership, Lalaga Pasifika Homeschool aims to strengthen both individual families and the communities they are part of.
At its core, Lalaga Pasifika Homeschool exists to remind families that they are not alone. When families are woven together, learning is strengthened, wellbeing is supported, and children thrive.
Lalaga Pasifika Homeschool continues to grow as a community-led initiative grounded in culture, connection, and the belief that education flourishes when it is woven with community.
